Gastrointestinal signs are some of the most common reasons for dogs presenting to veterinarians. Imaging plays a vital role in the evaluation of many such patients. The practicality of traditional imaging modalities is limited by associated capital costs, the need for anesthesia, or the specialized skill required to obtain or interpret the images. ALICAM® is the first platform imaging technology that removes these hurdles and allows imaging to be available to any practice at any time.
Working With ALICAM®
ALICAM® is a technology based consult service that supports veterinarians in the management of dogs with gastrointestinal disease. The “front end” of this service is a miniature ingestible camera system that is administered like a pill. Thousands of images are captured on the device as it travels through the inside of the GI tract. The images are stored on the device before being uploaded to the cloud. A veterinarian specializing in GI disease will review the images and, after reviewing the patient’s medical record, will generate a report with findings and treatment recommendations.
Details
ALICAM® uses four high resolution cameras placed around the circumference of the capsule to capture a 360 degree view of the gastrointestinal tract. These cameras capture high-resolution images at a maximum frame rate of 20 frames per second (5 FPS per camera). Emebedded software is able to adjust the frame rate based on input from an acceleromter to conserve energy for more complete examinations.
